Chapter 147 — The Long-Awaited...

Years of Heartflutter Page 273 of 501

"If you can't finish them, just pack them up and take them with you. They're still edible once they go cold," Yang Yanzhou said. "This whole area is about to be demolished. After that, you probably won't be able to get them anymore."

"Demolished?" Xia Xue nodded. She knew Yang Ce meant well, so she said nothing more.

Soon everything they had ordered was brought over. Yang Ce and Xia Xue sipped the piping-hot, freshly made tofu pudding, and it had a flavor all its own.

"This feels nice. Much better than going to a congee shop," Xia Xue said.

"If you like it, then come here often from now on. Otherwise you won't get the chance," Yang Shuoxuan said with a touch of feeling. The big city had entered the modern age, and modernization naturally had its benefits, but these traditional old trades were on the verge of vanishing altogether.

Before long the sky had brightened fully, and more and more people began to gather at the breakfast stalls. Most were local residents, but after watching carefully for a while, Yang Ce found that there were actually quite a few taxi drivers as well. It seemed the breakfast here really was popular. Taxi drivers spent all day running around on the roads and knew very well where the food was good. The fact that they came here showed that this place really was something.

"Didn't we tell you not to sell here anymore? Why are you still coming around and making a mess of things? What the fuck!" An old white Nissan van pulled up near the breakfast stalls, and several burly men in sunglasses got out.

"Fellas, it's not easy for us, running a business here. We'll only be selling for a few more days anyway," said the fried cake boss, whose smile had just a moment ago been warm, but who now turned to a bitter grin at the sight of these men.

"Fuck, keep dawdling and I'll smash your stall for you!" One of the sunglasses-wearing men shoved the fried cake boss and cursed. "Hurry up and clear out! Is this a place for the likes of you?"

"It's—it's only just past six. We'll be packed up by eight," the fried cake boss said, looking troubled.

"Packed up my ass!" The sunglasses-wearing man lost his patience and with one slap pushed the fried cake boss aside. "If you won't clear out, I'll clear it out for you."

"What do these people do?" Yang Wenru frowned and asked Xia Xue, "They're not urban management, are they?"

"I don't know. They're not wearing uniforms," Xia Xue said with a shake of her head. She had no idea what this bunch did either.

Hearing Yang Ce and Xia Xue talking, a diner nearby chimed in quietly: "Urban management? No, the urban management around here are pretty friendly. Sometimes they even help these vendors keep order. These people are from a demolition company. Every day they set up a tent at the mouth of the alley and handle demolition registration. They think these breakfast vendors are taking up their space. But the way I see it, they're just used to throwing their weight around and looking for trouble."

Most of the residents in this area were deeply unhappy with the people from the demolition company, but unhappy or not, they could only curse them in private; no one dared confront them to their faces.

"Why don't you call the police?" Yang Ce glanced at Xia Xue, then asked the man.

"Call the police? What good would that do? When the police come, they put on an act like company white-collar workers. There's no way they'd do anything in front of the police. And once the police leave, whoever called them is the one who suffers," the man said with a shake of his head, his voice full of helplessness. "Who wants to stir up that kind of trouble? Right now they're doing the demolition appraisals. Offend them and they'll appraise your house at the lowest possible price. In the end, you're the one who loses out."

Yang Xutang glanced at Xia Xue with a half-smile, as if to say, looks like your police still aren't doing their job well enough.

Xia Xue glared back at Yang Puqi. In her heart she thought, it's not that we don't want to deal with this kind of thing—it's that it's too hard to deal with. If we put police manpower into these matters every day, how would we do anything else? Besides, the police are not the only law enforcement agency, and they cannot handle everything. These demolition companies pay lip service while doing the opposite—it was a real headache of a problem.

As the several of them were talking, the burly man in sunglasses walked over, came up to Xia Xue's table, and said impatiently, "Hurry up, stop eating, get going, get going."

"We haven't finished eating yet. What right do you have to drive us off?" Xia Xue was already furious at this man, since it was because of him that Yang Ce had wordlessly given her a look of reproach, so now she was in no mood to be polite.

"Oh, the little girl's got some attitude, huh? But attitude won't help you. Don't go making me unhappy—you won't like the consequences!" With that, the sunglasses-wearing man reached out, grabbed the leg of Yang Ce's table, and with a heave flipped the table over, sending the tofu pudding and fried cakes crashing to the ground.

Xia Xue was heartbroken—her favorite fried cakes, and she hadn't even had her fill before they wound up on the ground. A surge of rage welled up in her heart. She thought, if I don't teach this arrogant bastard a lesson today, then I'm not Xia Xue.

"Do you know that what you're doing right now is illegal?" Xia Xue's face was dark as she glared at the sunglasses-wearing man.

"Illegal? Haha, around here I am the law! This whole area is my demolition zone. I'll do whatever I please!" The sunglasses-wearing man sneered after hearing Xia Xue's words. "What, not convinced? Keep it up and I'll demolish you too."

"Just try it," Xia Xue said. How could she be afraid of a thug like him?

"Little girl, you brought this on yourself," the sunglasses-wearing man said, reaching out to grab at Xia Xue's chest. Seeing how beautiful she was, the bastard was not about to pass up the chance to take advantage.

"Ah!" Before he could even make contact, the sunglasses-wearing man let out a miserable scream and crouched on the ground clutching his face. But the skin of his face was still bubbling and sizzling, and the skin had already begun to peel away.

Yang Ce held the pot of hot oil and looked coldly down at the sunglasses-wearing man crouched on the ground. "What I hate most is scum who pull that kind of crap on the women around me."

"Brother Ma, Brother Ma, what's wrong? Are you all right?" The other burly men, seeing the sunglasses-wearing man crouched on the ground clutching his face, hurried over, only to find that the skin had already been scalded off his face by the hot oil.

"Destroy this little bastard!" one of the men shouted. "Avenge Brother Ma!"

"Get me to a hospital, quick!" Brother Ma, on the verge of tears, endured the pain on his face and roared, his voice cracking. Avenging me is all well and good, but right now the most important thing is to get me to a hospital!

To be continued.

908. Dekang Real Estate

908 Dekang Real Estate "You're finished, kid. Go home and wait to die!" Before helping Ma into the van, the burly men did not forget to threaten him.

"All right, enough dawdling. In a little while your Brother Ma is going to be disfigured," Yang Xu said with a grin.

The van sped off in a cloud of dust, and everyone present was dumbstruck. They had never imagined that Yang Ce would be so fierce as to pour a whole pot of hot oil over Brother Ma's head.

"Yang Ce, that was deliberate injury," Xia Xue said with a frown, lowering her voice to Yang Yanzhou. Although she was happy in her heart that Yang Ce had protected her, she did not much approve of what Yang Juehuan had done.

"Hey, don't worry, I won't cause you any trouble. I guarantee they won't dare call the police," Yang Ce said with a chuckle.
