Chapter 147 — The Long-Awaited...

Years of Heartflutter Page 248 of 501

"By the way, what's become of that Yuan Gangyi?" Yang Ce suddenly thought of Zhang Bin's junior high classmate whom he had run into earlier.

889. Lin Yanhe's Secret

889 Lin Yanhe's Secret "He behaved himself after getting a beating," Bao Lin said with a laugh at once. "I heard that when he learned the person he'd tried to extort was me, he nearly wet his pants. What he doesn't know is that my boss was sitting in the car at the time too."

"You let him go?" Yang Xutang asked.

"Yeah, let him go. But I called the editor-in-chief of the Songjiang Metropolis Daily and told him all about the kid's misdeeds. I reckon he'll be fired as soon as he gets back," Bao Lin said.

Never mind Bao Lin's current social standing—the advertising fees Mingyang Entertainment placed in the Songjiang Metropolis Daily every year were a considerable sum in themselves, though they were not handled by a small fry like Yuan Gangyi.

So a single word from Bao Lin was enough to make the newspaper's editor-in-chief weigh the consequences, and a nobody like Yuan Gangyi—what people commonly call a "temp worker"—could be sacrificed without a second thought.

Yang Xutang nodded in approval. Bao Lin was starting to use his head now, no longer the simpleton who knew only how to teach people a lesson with his fists. Using connections and a bit of scheming when appropriate was quite good too.

"Brother Yang, did you come to President Yang's place because of the Phoenix City matter?" Bao Lin was indeed sharper than before, knowing to think things through.

"Yeah. What, you know about it too?" Yang Ce had no intention of hiding it from Bao Lin.

"Yes. President Yang mentioned it to me earlier. At the time I wanted to take some men over and wipe him out, but later I was afraid of causing you trouble, so I talked it over with President Yang and we decided to wait until you got back," Bao Lin said.

"You did the right thing. You don't need to worry about this matter—I'll go there myself when I make the delivery," Yang Yanzhou said.

"Ah—Brother Yang, can you go alone? It's so dangerous. How about I come with you?" Bao Lin said with some concern.

"Enough. If you came along, I'd have to protect you." Yang Ce shot Bao Lin a glare.

Bao Lin immediately wore an embarrassed, sheepish expression. "Fair enough. Concern makes me muddled."

"By the way, you're the boss of a big company now, so stop driving that minivan all over the place." Yang Minlan felt a little awkward having snatched this BMW X5 from Bao Lin, and now, seeing Bao Lin drive a minivan around every day like a hired driver, she felt even more ashamed. Bao Lin was, after all, the nominal head of the underworld and the boss of a major entertainment company—there was no way he could keep driving a minivan.

"Ha, at first I figured this car could carry more people, and then I got used to driving it and didn't want to change." Bao Lin laughed. "See, Brother Yang, you saw it yourself just now—I had the company buy these cars, more than ten of them."

"How about this: buy a Mercedes, or an Audi A8 if you prefer. Anything with a bit of class. Your status is what it is—you can't look too shabby." Yang Yanzhou said.

"Haha, since Brother Yang approves, I'll go buy one tomorrow." Bao Lin nodded with a smile. "Let's go with the Audi—a Mercedes is a bit too flashy."

"That works too. Order a few more while you're at it—one each for my dad and my uncle, one for Hou Lin, and order another Audi sports car for Chen Shutang," Yang Yanzhou said. Chen Shutang had long known how to drive, so a license would be no problem; once the car was bought, she could probably get right on the road.

Since he had bought a house off campus, Yang Duoji had plenty on his own plate, and buying Chen Shutang a car had become a matter of necessity.

"What model should we order for the sports car? An R8?" Bao Lin nodded, noted down Yang Juehuan's instructions, and then asked.

"An R8?" Yang Ce hesitated. To be honest, Sun Jie's R8 really was a beautiful car, but it was far too conspicuous. Sun Jie was a graduate student who also ran a company off campus, so driving such a flashy car was no problem for her—but Chen Shutang was different. She was only a first-year student, and her father held a rather sensitive position. Even if Yang Ce had bought the car as a gift for her, some people would probably let their imaginations run in unflattering directions.

"Let's go with the A5. It's not too expensive, and it's quite nice." Yang Ce thought for a moment and said. He remembered that back when he and Zhang Bin were choosing cars, they had seen this model on the Autohome website. It was an Audi A-series sports car with good value for money and a handsome look.

"Got it." Bao Lin nodded after hearing this. "Buy it in red?"

"Yes, red is fine—it looks better for a girl to drive. See about getting a low-displacement version; I remember the smallest being a 2.0. I don't want her driving too fast. Something modest will do." Yang Yuting nodded.

"Understood." Bao Lin noted down each of Yang Ce's requests one by one, planning to contact them tomorrow to order the car. Of course, for other people an order might take months, but with Bao Lin going in person, perhaps just a few weeks—there was no helping it. With someone like Bao Lin, no one would deliberately offend him, and his business would be handled as smoothly as possible.

On the way home, he called Chen Shutang's house. "Mengyan, I'm back in Songjiang."

There was a brief silence on the other end of the line, and then Chen Shutang's somewhat plaintive voice came through: "So you went away this time and didn't bring me back a sister?"

Yang Lanxu was startled. Huang Yan really was just as Chen Shutang said—every time he went out, it seemed he had some romantic encounter. If this kept up, he might as well just stop leaving the house.

"Why so quiet? Hehe." Chen Shutang's tone shifted, and she said with a lovely smile, "Don't be scared, I'm just teasing you. I agreed to it this time, so you don't need to blame yourself too much."

Yang Puqi was stunned, then realized that Chen Shutang was probably talking about Su Ya. As for Huang Yan—never mind, he would find a chance to explain another time.

"Mengyan, thank you." That was all Yang Ce could say at the moment. Though the thanks sounded a little hollow and pale, Chen Shutang's understanding warmed his heart.

"Do you really need to be so polite with me? By the way, did you bring her back?" Chen Shutang was naturally asking about Su Ya.

"No, she has her own matters to attend to. She probably won't come more than a few times a year." Yang Ce sighed. "She doesn't want to cause too much trouble between the two of us."

"I already told you, I don't care about that." Chen Shutang also knew Su Ya was telling the truth—how could a superstar possibly live like an ordinary person?

"Are you free now? Come out and have dinner with me." Yang Ce suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to see Chen Shutang.

"Now? My mom's already making dinner. How about tomorrow, is that all right?" Chen Shutang said, sounding a little put out.

"That works too, tomorrow then." Yang Shuoxuan didn't press her. "By the way, tell Uncle Chen for me—when you have time, get your driver's license sorted out quickly. I asked a friend to order you a car."

"Huh? You're buying me a car?" Chen Shutang was taken aback. She hadn't expected Yang Ce to suddenly buy her a car.

"Yes, an Audi A5. If you have time later, you can look it up online. I had him order it in red. If you don't like it, we can switch to another model—it doesn't matter," Yang Yanzhou said.

"Me driving—isn't that a bit much?" Chen Shutang said, though she couldn't quite hide the pleasant surprise in her voice.

"There's nothing much about it. Plenty of students drive to school these days—you're not the only one," Yang Yanzhou said.
