Chapter 141 — Old Buffon's Origins

Years of Heartflutter Page 39 of 106

As for looks, Yang Ce hadn't paid much attention. A notch below Sun Jie, but still a beauty. It was just that Yang Ce had too many beauties around him, and his standards had gotten rather high.

"Very nice to meet you." Yang Ce nodded politely. "Then I'll call you Sister Xin."

"At least you know your place—I'm a year older than Xiaojie." Yang Xin said smugly. "There's no little brother in my family. Now I've gone out and acquired one—how great is that?"

Sun Jie laughed and swatted her. "You—still the same as ever. Even back in school you were always going on about acquiring a little brother."

"Yeah, and it never worked back then. Who'd have thought—instead I ended up acquiring your husband as a little brother," Yang Xin said.

"I heard you came with someone else—Wu Yunsheng, right?" Sun Jie asked.

"Who else would it be?" Yang Xin said. "He's over there ordering. Let's eat together."

"Sure, I was just worrying we wouldn't find a table," Sun Jie nodded. Clearly she was no stranger to this Wu Yunsheng either.

"Xiaojie, tell me—have you two done 'that' yet?" Yang Xin glanced at Yang Puqi, then pulled Sun Jie aside and whispered.

What Yang Xin didn't know was that no matter how softly she whispered, it was useless against Yang Ce—he could read lips. He only caught that she was asking this particular question. Yang Shuo couldn't very well cut in, so he had no choice but to pretend he hadn't heard.

"Done what?" Sun Jie shot a glance back at Yang Puqi, and only when she saw he wasn't looking her way did she whisper, "You little pervert, you've become impure. From the look of you, you've definitely done it with Wu Yunsheng."

"Mm." Yang Xin nodded, a little bashful. "So have you? No lying."

"No." Sun Jie couldn't even sort out her own relationship with Yan. What if they weren't together in the future? So of course Sun Jie wouldn't admit to anything.

"I don't believe it. Look at your chest—it's gotten bigger again. It must be my brother groping it. Hee hee." Yang Xin grinned slyly.

Though the two were the closest of bosom friends, Sun Jie still couldn't help her face darkening at Yang Xin's words. "I see you, the former Flat Princess, have filled out quite a bit yourself. Oh, now I know why you understand it all so well—turns out you've been speaking from experience."

"So what if I have? You're the dishonest one. Still trying to deny it now?" Yang Xin said.

"Fine, fine. Think whatever you like. Suit yourself," Sun Jie said helplessly.

Behind them, Yang Ce was now drenched in sweat just from listening. Too fierce—truly filthy and violent. "Wu Yunsheng!" Yang Xin waved at a young man not far away. "Come over here."

Hearing her, the young man promptly set down his order menu, said a quick word to the waiter beside him, and hurried over. He put on a fawning smile. "Xiaoxin, what is it?"

"Didn't you notice that Xiao Jie is here too? What kind of look is that?" Yang Xin shot Wu Yunsheng a glare.

Yang Yongjin could only shake his head with a bitter smile. It was plain to see that this Wu Yunsheng was deeply in love with Yang Xin—his eyes held no one but her, and everything else around him scarcely registered, simply filtered out.

"Sun Jie, I'm sorry—I didn't bring my contact lenses today," Wu Yunsheng said awkwardly, fumbling for a rather clumsy excuse.

Sun Jie, however, knew Wu Yunsheng's temperament well enough not to hold it against him. "Your eyes are all for Xiao Xin now. Even with contact lenses, I doubt you'd see me."

"Heh heh." Wu Yunsheng gave an embarrassed laugh.

"Let me introduce you—this is Yang Ce, the younger brother I've just taken under my wing," Yang Xin said to Wu Yunsheng. Then, turning to Yang Yanzhou: "And this is my boyfriend, Wu Yunsheng."

"Hello there, little brother-in-law!" Wu Yunsheng hastily extended his hand.

Smack! Yang Xin knocked his hand away. "Who's your little brother-in-law? Yang Ce, don't pay him any mind—we'll keep our own accounts straight."

"Uh, heh heh." Wu Yunsheng was not offended, only a little embarrassed.

Yang Shuoxuan could see it clearly: this Wu Yunsheng was an honest man, and in these times such honest men were becoming rare. Judging from his dress and bearing, he likely came from a well-off family besides.

"Hello, brother-in-law," Yang Jiyan said with a smile, taking Wu Yunsheng's hand and giving it a firm shake.

"Good, good." Joy immediately spread across Wu Yunsheng's face—being called brother-in-law by Yang Cenbin clearly delighted him.

"All right, Yunsheng, you're treating us today—we can't very well have my little brother foot the bill, can we?" Yang Xin said.

"Of course, of course," Wu Yunsheng said with a cheerful laugh, the very picture of a good-natured fellow.

With Yang Ce and Sun Jie joining them, Wu Yunsheng naturally ordered a few more dishes, then said to Yang Yanzhou, "Order whatever you'd like—no need to stand on ceremony with your brother-in-law."

"I've never been here before—first time. You go ahead and pick," Yang Yanzhou said.

"Xiao Jie, I've ordered all the dishes we used to love back in high school. See if there's anything else you want," Yang Xin said.

"Seven dishes for four people is plenty—any more and we won't be able to finish it." Sun Jie said, "This is enough."

"That works too—we can always order more if it's not enough," Wu Yunsheng said.

The four of them settled into their seats and waited for the waiter to bring the food.

"This place looks even busier than before," Sun Jie remarked, gazing at the packed tables.

"It is. I come here sometimes myself. Unlike you, off away from Donghai, I've witnessed this place's glorious rise," Yang Xin nodded. "There aren't any tables left now. If you want to eat here, you leave your phone number and wait outside. When a table clears, the waiters call the waiting guests in order."

Yang Ce clicked his tongue inwardly at the sight. And this was only noon—come evening, who knew how long the queue would stretch.

Still, it had to be said: despite the crowd, the food came out fast. Perhaps that was part of why the place had endured so long. Less than ten minutes after they sat down, three dishes had already arrived.

"Here, little brother, try this stir-fried bamboo shoots—Xiao Jie and I loved it back in school," Yang Xin said, beginning to carry out her duties as a sister.

"Okay." Yang Ce hastily took a bite. The flavor really was excellent—crisp and refreshing. He could not help praising it: "This really is good."

Wu Yunsheng, meanwhile, simply sat there with an honest smile, his eyes never once leaving Yang Xin. Sun Jie and Yang Xin, for their part, had fallen into rapid chatter—clearly they had not seen each other in a long while and had much to say.

To be continued.

651. Someone Strikes Up a Conversation

Before anyone noticed, all the dishes had arrived and half an hour had passed. Through their conversation, Yang Ce learned that Sun Jie, Yang Xin, and Wu Yunsheng had all been classmates in the same high school class—and that Wu Yunsheng had begun courting Yang Xin back in high school, pursuing her for seven years before finally winning her over after college graduation.

This left Yang Ce full of admiration for Wu Yunsheng's willpower. The fellow truly never gave up.

And the family backgrounds of Yang Xin and Wu Yunsheng were, just as Yang Ce had expected, remarkably illustrious. Yang Xin's family ran a freight station with branches all over the country—a very large business.

In this era, those who ran such operations all had deep underworld connections. So Yang Xin and Sun Jie were much alike, both belonging to that crowd of underworld princesses; few at school dared cross them. Yet it was this devoted Wu Yunsheng who pursued Yang Xin for n years.

Sun Lin also knew Yang Xin's father. The Yang family's business in Donghai was looked after by Sun Lin, and many of their connections in other cities had been smoothed over with his help as well.
