Chapter 825 — Troublemaker
When Manager Wang saw that Gu Mengyao no longer wanted the clothes, and then watched Gou Huli storm off in a rage, he could more or less guess what had happened: Gou Huli must have offended the young miss, the young miss had gotten angry with her, and that was what had produced this scene.
But naturally Manager Wang would not pry. If the young miss did not want them, she did not want them. He kept up his pretense of knowing nothing and said to Gu Mengyao, "Miss Gu, why don't you look around a little more? If there is anything you need, feel free to contact me at any time. Here is my card..."
"Very well, Manager Wang. Go about your business, then." The young miss took the card he held out and handed it to Wei Zhao.
Manager Wang looked at Wei Zhao, a flicker of something odd passing through his eyes. Rumor had it that Gu Pengzhan had found himself a son-in-law, the company's second-largest shareholder, who had never once attended a board meeting. Could this man at the young miss's side be that second-largest shareholder?
Yet by his dress and bearing, he looked shabby enough. Even so, Manager Wang did not dare slight him. The wealthy had no end of strange tastes; and then there was the young miss herself, wearing nothing but the ordinary tracksuit issued by her school. From appearances alone, one could never guess who she was.
Gu Mengyao had no wish to keep shopping either; there was nothing she wanted to buy. She said to Shen Yushu, "Xiaoshu, what shall we do now?"
"I don't know," Shen Yushu said. "I was all excited to watch that head-twisting trick, but the old hag turned out to be a fraud." She complained, somewhat put out, "It's so boring. Let's go see if there's anything fun to do."
"What fun could there possibly be around here?" Gu Mengyao did not think the commercial street had anything entertaining to offer.
"There is! Not far from here there's an arcade called Tiandi Splendid Years. I want to take a look..." Shen Yushu said.
"What's there to see in an arcade? There are a lot of street thugs hanging around those places. It's dangerous!" Gu Mengyao said instinctively. Shen Yushu had wanted to go to an arcade before, but Gu Mengyao had turned her down with that very argument.
"We've got Brother Arrow now. Nothing to fear!" Shen Yushu said. "If any thugs bother us, we'll just let Brother Arrow beat them up!"
Gu Mengyao was taken aback by her words. True enough, now that they had a real martial arts expert at their side, there truly was no danger; ordinary street punks were in no position to do anything to Wei Zhao.
"Wei Zhao, Xiaoshu wants to go to the arcade?" Gu Mengyao looked at Wei Zhao.
Wei Zhao was rather surprised. The young miss was actually asking his opinion now? She had never done that before. It seemed the business at the hospital had truly changed her somewhat.
"Then let's go. It's the weekend, after all." Wei Zhao did not mind. "Since we're out anyway, no harm in taking a look."
Wei Zhao figured that if he made these two girls go back and paint the house, he would be the one to suffer for it. Better to let them go raise hell at the arcade.
In truth, Gu Mengyao was curious to see what an arcade was like. She was grown now; if she told people she had never set foot in one, would they laugh at her? And yet this was indeed the life she and Xiaoshu had led before they met Wei Zhao—glittering on the surface, yet bland and tasteless.
The three of them left the Pengzhan Commercial Building. Wei Zhao drove, following the direction Shen Yushu pointed out, until they reached a large entertainment center that combined video games, billiards, and an internet cafe all in one. Many young people had come here to play; from the steady stream of people going in and out, it was clear that business was brisk.
Half of the entertainment center's ground floor was taken up by the video arcade, the other half by the billiard hall. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had never been to such a place; they had only ever seen one on television.
"Wei Zhao, go buy some game tokens?" Gu Mengyao knew the machines here ran on tokens, so she said to Wei Zhao.
Wei Zhao nodded and walked over to the counter.
Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, meanwhile, wandered at random through the arcade, planning to first see whether there were any games worth playing.
"Beauties, care to play a round with us?" No sooner had Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu stepped into the arcade than a few delinquents at the entrance fixed their eyes on them. Seeing the two of them on their own, one came over to strike up a conversation. He was a young man with red hair.
Wherever they went, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu were the center of attention. Though today they wore only ordinary tracksuits, that gave them even more of a student air, which in turn made those delinquents assume the two had no formidable backing.
Gu Mengyao gave the red-haired youth a cold glance and ignored him. Shen Yushu, however, was curious. "Hey, why is your hair red? Was it like that when you were little?"
"Heh, you want to know? I wouldn't mind taking you somewhere with no one around so you can study it properly," the red-haired youth said, suddenly excited that this big-breasted girl had deigned to answer him.
"Not really." Shen Yushu shook her head. "I just think it's really ugly. Like a turkey."
Hearing how unpleasant her words were, the red-haired youth was none too pleased. "Little girl, what's that supposed to mean? If you don't want to play, fine, but there's no need to insult people."
Gu Mengyao was annoyed. Shen Yushu really was a troublemaker, stirring up trouble the moment they arrived. If she had known, she would never have come! Without Wei Zhao here, the two of them would have been in trouble! In fact, Shen Yushu was not foolish; if Wei Zhao had not been with them, she would not have provoked anyone either.
The red-haired youth's words promptly drew over several more delinquents, who surrounded Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu in the middle.
"What do you want?" Gu Mengyao frowned. She had not expected these people to be so utterly unbridled. Was there no security here?
Gu Mengyao had never been to such a place before, so naturally she did not know there was essentially no security here—only a few local thugs who kept watch over the place. And as long as nothing too big was stirred up, those men would not show themselves.
"She insulted our Brother Red, so what do you think we want?" A bald delinquent with a cigarette in his mouth pointed at Shen Yushu and egged the others on.
"All right, then let's say it was her fault. I'll apologize on her behalf. Will that do?" Gu Mengyao did not want trouble.
"Will it do? You think just saying so makes it do? Here's the deal—let this girl keep our Brother Red company for a while, and we'll let the matter drop!" the bald one said.
"Don't you go too far." How could Gu Mengyao possibly agree to such a demand—let Xiaoshu keep them company?
"Too far? You're first-timers here, aren't you? You don't know the rules, so don't come back. But this time, you'll still do things by the rules!" The redhead spoke indifferently. "Play one round of racing with me, and I won't do anything to her—at most a quick grope, that's all. Otherwise, if word gets out that someone offended me, Red, and walked away untouched, I'd have a hard time in this place from now on!"
