Chapter 644 — How Very Strange
"Everyone, slow down a little—just treat this like a sightseeing tour. Since Yang Ce is waiting for the enemy to come to him, of course he won't move too fast and let them lose the trail. Best if he keeps himself out in the open—that way he can draw the enemy in all the faster."
"Sightseeing?" Xia Xue blinked. "You came here to play?"
"I never had time to go out and enjoy myself before. Scenery this fine is rare—it'd be a shame not to relax a little, wouldn't it?" Yang Hengye said. "Especially you two, Tianlong and Susu—why not treat this as your honeymoon?"
"Heh heh..." Feng Yan immediately scratched at his scalp and grinned, looking rather pleased.
Xiao Susu, however, flushed red and stole a rather embarrassed glance at Yang Puqi. But since Yang Ce was the captain, naturally she couldn't say much. Besides, what was between her and Feng Yan was already an established fact. On this mission she had come prepared to die, and so she no longer had her old misgivings. And Feng Yan had cut ties with his family for her sake and signed up for this operation without a second thought—that alone was proof enough of what was in his heart. What reason did Xiao Susu have left to hesitate?
"Hey, Yang Ce—are you here to carry out a mission or to play?" Xia Xue was getting a little unhappy. She had thought Yang Ce was impressive before, that he did things in an orderly way—but who would have guessed that the moment Yang Puqi entered the Miaojiang jungle, he became a completely different person!
"Xia Xue, what are you getting so worked up about?" Yang Ce looked at her and couldn't help but laugh. "What we need to do now is wait for the enemy to come find us, not go looking for them. In this vast Miaojiang jungle, how hard would it be to find one person? So I was afraid the enemy might lose our trail—that's why I brought everyone here sightseeing. It makes us a bigger target, and easier for the enemy to find. Isn't that so?"
"So that's it!" Hearing Yang Juehuan's words, Xia Xue's face went red at once. So she had misunderstood Yang Ce? She felt a little embarrassed. Yes, Yang Yanzhou was right—how could she have been so dense? Ah, on this training exercise, she was the only novice; she mustn't drag Yang Ce down!
"The scenery here is nice—shall we take a group photo?" Yang Ce took out his phone. The phones issued by the Mystery Investigation Bureau took first-rate pictures, and Yang Ce had turned his into a tool for sightseeing snapshots.
"Sure!" Now that Xia Xue understood Yang Juehuan's plan, she had no other ideas and began actively cooperating with Yang Ce. And deep down, she had actually wanted to take some photos with Yanzhao too. She didn't know when this feeling had first arisen, but her fondness for Yang Juehuan had grown stronger and stronger—especially on this mission, seeing Yang Ce's formidable skill and cool head, Xia Xue liked him more and more, liked him... it was no longer just the joking notion of a long-term meal ticket.
Feng Yan and Xiao Susu were a couple, and Yang Ce and Xia Xue were a couple too, so the job of photographer naturally fell to Liu Yu. He was the only one alone—a few souvenir shots would do, no need to snap away endlessly!
The scenery here was beautiful, but it was all basically the same: photograph from this angle and it was jungle, photograph from that angle and it was still jungle—no matter how you shot it, it was jungle. Take too many and it got boring. But for couples it was different: different poses, different meaning in each shot.
At that moment, Feng Yan was tentatively slipping his arm around Xiao Susu's waist—a bold move he had never dared before. Though the two of them had tacitly acknowledged their relationship, Xiao Susu had a knot in her heart and had never let things go further with Feng Yan. But now, things had come to this pass—if their relationship didn't move forward now, there might never be another chance!
So after shooting Feng Yan a glare, Xiao Susu tacitly allowed his wandering hands, and Feng Yan's nose practically skewed with delight. In his heart his gratitude toward Heng was boundless—the captain was truly wonderful! Not only did he lead everyone on missions, he even led his team members in courting girls. What a great man!
So Feng Yan grew bolder and bolder—from an arm around the waist at first, to a full embrace later, and in the end the two of them even took a few kissing photos... That night Feng Yan would smile even in his dreams.
Yang Cenbin, on the other hand, was far more proper. He did have feelings for Yang Minlan and Xia Xue, but Yang Ce always felt the two of them hadn't yet reached the point of true intimacy. Such things had to develop step by step—you couldn't rush them all at once, could you?
Feng Yan and Xiao Susu's situation was a bit special, and the two of them had been circling each other for so long—naturally it was different from the relationship between himself and Xia Xue.
Of course, Xia Xue said nothing either. Deep down she was in fact a rather conservative woman; if Yang Ce had suddenly turned utterly lecherous toward her, she wouldn't have known what to do. So letting nature take its course was really the best outcome.
And so the five of them, like tourists visiting the area, began taking photos and shooting videos here, and in the end simply sat down on the ground, preparing for a picnic in the jungle!
Wang Xiaolao brought several men to the edge of the Miaojiang jungle and quickly located Yang Puqi and his group. Though Wang Xiaolao was arrogant, he did not go straight up to them; instead he waited near Yang Ce and the others, to see just what these people were capable of.
But after waiting a while, all he saw was Yang Cenbin and his group either taking photos or having a picnic—it seemed they hadn't come on a mission at all, but had come here to play!
"What the hell—goods like these, and I have to come deal with them myself?" Seeing how Yang Ce and the others were behaving, Wang Xiaolao felt a surge of frustration. What kind of characters were these? A ragtag bunch if ever there was one—utterly pathetic, weren't they?
Was there the slightest sign they were here on a mission? They were plainly here on holiday. Could it be that these people were using the crackdown on the Right Elder as a pretext to come here and play?
The more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed to Wang Xiaolao. Otherwise, these people had been at the edge of the jungle all day, taking photos and chatting, without the slightest intention of going deeper in!
"Boss, what should we do now? Are these people really this weak? Could there be some kind of scheme?" One of Wang Xiaolao's subordinates also looked at Yang Ce and the others with some doubt. Weren't these people supposed to be formidable? Even the Right Elder didn't dare face them head-on, and had the foreign Miao stronghold stall for time?
"I'm wondering about that myself," Wang Xiaolao nodded. "How about we watch a little longer?"
"Fine, let's watch a while longer then!" The subordinate nodded too, thoroughly agreeing. He wasn't sure whether there was really something off about this either—but either way, it was very strange!!
