Chapter 198 — Betrayal

Years of Heartflutter Page 2 of 2

"Don't move." Sun Lin aimed the tail end of the lighter at the back of Xiao Wang's head. "Pull over to the side of the road."

Sun Lin meant to interrogate Xiao Wang about who was behind this, to see just who was so bold as to target him, Sun Lin! Earlier, when Sun Jie had been shot at, Sun Lin had been cautious for a time and had quietly investigated for a long while, but had turned up no useful leads.

Later, when nothing unusual happened, Sun Lin had let down his guard. And he had never imagined that Xiao Wang would turn traitor!

After all, when the Tian family trained bodyguards for him, they screened candidates strictly from every angle—not only skilled in martial arts, but absolutely loyal, and the Tian family would hold some leverage over the man, such as relatives, so that he would not dare harbor thoughts of betrayal!

But in that moment, Xiao Wang had turned on him after all! What kind of profit could be great enough to make Xiao Wang abandon his principles? More than ten years of loyalty, dissolved in an instant by gain—the offer must have been something truly terrifying.

Sun Lin could not imagine who could have promised such lavish reward to buy the man beside him, to carry out his kidnapping.

But Xiao Wang did not stop the car, still driving at breakneck speed.

"Don't think I won't shoot you dead." Seeing no reaction from Xiao Wang, Sun Lin seemed suddenly to grasp his thinking. "Without you driving, even if the car goes out of control, I won't necessarily die."

"Heh heh..." Xiao Wang actually laughed. "Mr. Sun, you've got it wrong. You can't kill me at all."

Sun Lin was taken aback, not understanding what Xiao Wang meant.

Even so, Sun Lin threw caution to the wind and aimed at Xiao Wang, pulling the trigger.

Sun Lin had never been the sort to be threatened by anyone. Seeing Xiao Wang's cold, mocking tone, he would sooner shoot him dead and risk the car losing control and injuring himself than let the man's scheme succeed.

And so Sun Lin resolutely chose to fire.

"Click." There was a faint sound of the firing pin, but no bullet came out. Xiao Wang still drove on, entirely unharmed.

Why hadn't the bullet fired? Sun Lin frowned, but quickly pulled the trigger again. Another "click," and still no bullet came out.

Could the Southern Boss have been lying to him? Could this thing be some knockoff he'd picked up from who knows where? Sun Lin had never expected that the very object meant to save his life would fail him at the critical moment.
