Chapter 192 — Startled Awake

Years of Heartflutter Page 2 of 2

Sun Jie shot Xiao Qing a furious glare. What did she mean, abusing public office for private gain? This was that and nothing less! Just you wait till tonight! Sun Jie fumed inwardly.

Even so, at this moment, in front of her classmates, Sun Jie had no choice but to rise obediently to her feet and, with some reluctance, answer the question Xiao Qing had asked earlier. For all that Sun Jie chatted away with Zhao Ying, her eyes still drifted to the computer screen in front of her from time to time.

Xiao Qing gave a nod, signaling that Sun Jie could sit back down, and then went on with the lecture.

Sun Jie and Zhao Ying were unquestionably the bright lights of the graduate class. Xiao Qing was the teacher—young as she looked, she was hardly someone ordinary students could aspire to. In their eyes, Sun Jie and Zhao Ying were the realistic prospects.

Many who had gotten into graduate school had previously devoted themselves so single-mindedly to study that they had forgotten to look for a partner. Now that they were graduate students, they had begun to consider the matter of lifelong commitment, and so Sun Jie and Zhao Ying naturally became everyone's target.

Every day someone would send flowers, and every day they would be turned down—the sender heartbroken, the onlookers delighted. Another's loss was one's own chance at gain.

The fiercest pursuers, however, were three: Fan Ce, Tang Jiaqian, and Chen Piaoyi. Chen Piaoyi had set his sights on Zhao Ying, Tang Jiaqian on Sun Jie—and Fan Ce, for his part, wanted to pursue both.

So, naturally, the three coalesced into two camps. Tang Jiaqian and Chen Piaoyi, with different targets, had no conflict of interest, but Fan Ce was another matter—he wanted both, and so he became the common enemy.

In truth, Fan Ce was something of a figure in his own right, a celebrity at Songjiang Engineering University. He had started a business in his freshman year, built it up from a few tens of thousands of yuan in student entrepreneurship grants, and now ran a modest little internet company.

In his spare time the fellow liked to read web novels—had gotten a bit addicted to them, in fact. He was deeply enamored of the way the protagonists in those stories kept a wife and a concubine or three, and so he figured he would find himself a few girlfriends too.

And he had actually pulled it off. At present he had no fewer than two girlfriends—one a young nurse from the medical university, the other a female secretary at his company. Word had it the two women had already met and were getting along quite amicably!

So there he was at school, loathed by his male peers for squandering resources, yet secretly envied by many, who thought his life was nothing short of a celestial existence.

And now he had set his sights on Sun Jie and Zhao Ying, which was courting public outrage!
