Chapter 2456 — An Unexpected Turn

The Blossom Guardian

Of course, Wei Zhao would do nothing beyond healing the little turtle—he would not help it grow stronger. For one thing, he and the giant turtle shared no bond of friendship; for another, he had no intention of revealing too much in front of Kang Zhaolong.

Healing a spirit beast was nothing remarkable—Wei Zhao was, after all, a "miracle doctor," and Kang Zhaolong clearly knew a little about that. What was convenient now was that Wei Zhao happened to be standing in a blind spot outside the cave, so from inside no one could see clearly what was going on out there.

If Kang Zhaolong asked later, Wei Zhao could simply put it down to a special burn medicine from Doctor Guan and say no more about it.

At first, the giant turtle had been doubtful that Wei Zhao could heal the little one—after all, the little turtle was nearly cooked; how could it possibly be treated? But as Wei Zhao's inner art began to circulate, a flicker of suspicion passed through the giant turtle's eyes, and then came excitement!

It could sense it—the little turtle's injuries were mending. Though it could not see the wounds, it could feel the little one's life force gradually strengthening, and the fury in the giant turtle's heart slowly subsided.

"Done," Wei Zhao said, setting the little turtle on the ground and addressing the giant one. "If you want revenge, go after that thing from before. If not, then be on your way."

The giant turtle glanced into the cave, hesitated a moment, then gathered up the little one and slowly made its way toward the lake. Only then did Wei Zhao notice that the ice on the lake had been completely shattered into floating slabs—clearly the giant turtle's lair lay at the bottom of the lake.

Watching the giant and little turtles depart, Wei Zhao turned and went back into the cave. "We need to go. Now," he said to Kang Zhaolong and Wang Xinyan.

"Ah—right!" Kang Zhaolong nodded eagerly, only too glad to agree.

Wang Xinyan was puzzled. Wei Zhao had sent the giant turtle away—so why the hurry? But since it was Wei Zhao who said so, she did not hesitate. She nodded and followed him and Kang Zhaolong out of the cave.

"Where are we going?" Once outside, the cold wind struck Kang Zhaolong and he felt rather reluctant to leave—yet the thought of that terrifying giant turtle made him shiver all over, and he dared not linger.

"How do you plan to get out of here?" Wei Zhao frowned. "By your original plan, you fell off the cable car—so how are you two supposed to get back?"

"I..." Kang Zhaolong looked at Wei Zhao, then at Wang Xinyan, and said with some embarrassment, "I told You Panhu to bring a helicopter to pick us up in two days..."

Wei Zhao was speechless for a moment. "Let's just get out of here first. Move—quickly! I'd guess that giant turtle will come looking for us before long..."

"Didn't we settle it? Why would it go back on its word..." Kang Zhaolong asked cautiously.

"Who knows what was in that bottle before. It might have been the giant turtle's prized treasure, and I threw it away. If it remembers, what do you think—will it come looking?" Wei Zhao said.

"Damn! Why did you throw it away? You just had to stir up trouble!" Kang Zhaolong said, none too pleased.

Wei Zhao nearly laughed and cried at once. He glared at Kang Zhaolong and said irritably, "And who was it that picked it up in the first place?"

Only then did Kang Zhaolong remember—had he not brought back the little turtle and that wretched bottle, none of this trouble would have happened. He shut his mouth at once and dared not say another word.

"Call You Panhu. Tell him to send a helicopter for us right now," Wei Zhao said.

"I... don't have a phone. It was stolen..." Kang Zhaolong said with a bitter smile.

"Here." Wei Zhao handed him his own phone.

To save his skin, Kang Zhaolong dared not try any tricks. He dialed You Panhu's number straight away—and only after several attempts did he remember that You Panhu's phone had been stolen too. With no other choice, he called Team Leader Bai, hoping the two were together.

"Wei Zhao? How are you all doing?" Team Leader Bai's heart eased at once when he picked up Wei Zhao's call.

He had only just received the news that the cable car carrying Kang Zhaolong and Wang Xinyan had crashed, and that Wei Zhao had jumped down after them. Confident as he was in the skills of an Earth-Rank expert like Wei Zhao, he could not help worrying about Wang Xinyan and Kang Zhaolong.

He had wanted to send for help at once, but You Panhu stopped him, saying Kang Zhaolong was surely fine—he and Wang Xinyan had gone off to be romantic, and there was no need to worry about them.

Frowning, Team Leader Bai asked for the details. Though furious that Kang Zhaolong would gamble with his life over such a thing, he breathed a sigh of relief on learning that those involved were safe. He gave You Panhu a thorough dressing-down, then told him that if he failed the final exams, he could look forward to being kicked out.

Though this was not the school, Team Leader Bai was still incensed at You Panhu for helping Kang Zhaolong with this business—reckless beyond words!

"Teacher Bai, it's me, Kang Zhaolong!" Kang Zhaolong said urgently, his voice close to tears. "Teacher Bai, is You Panhu nearby?"

"You Panhu? He's here!" Team Leader Bai handed the phone straight to You Panhu, unwilling to get involved in their mess.

"Brother Kang, what's wrong?" You Panhu asked, somewhat aggrieved. This whole business could have been kept under wraps—a simple lie to Team Leader Bai would have gotten them through—but Wei Zhao had jumped down after them, and Wei Zhao had surely noticed something was off. There was no hiding it now; they would have to tell the truth.

"Brother You, send a helicopter to pick us up right away! We're in trouble!" Kang Zhaolong said urgently.

"Ah? All right!" You Panhu was taken aback. He did not know what this "trouble" was, but Kang Zhaolong's tone sounded desperate, so he quickly agreed.

Having agreed, You Panhu went to the resort's security department to arrange a helicopter to fetch Kang Zhaolong. This was part of an arrangement he had made with the resort on his last visit: if the cable car crashed, they were not to rush out searching—only when he came would a helicopter be sent to look.

This time, however, there was a slight complication. The moment You Panhu stepped into the security office, he saw Su Lengzi bawling and shouting while his wounds were being dressed, along with his two underlings—and the security guards from before were there as well.

You Panhu frowned and ignored them, turning instead to another guard seated at the desk. "Captain Sun, per our prior agreement, send out the helicopter now to search for my friends."

The security captain was just about to agree to You Panhu's request when a furious shout rang out!
