Chapter 1028 — Feng Xiaoxiao's Wish

The Blossom Guardian

"You don't think they meant to film something on the sly, do you?" Wei Zhao shrugged. "Check whether there's any video on it and delete it."

Kang** brought up the video, and sure enough it had been shot just now in the gymnasium: a group of girls at training, and some of them were indeed dressed very scantily! But there was nothing of Gu Mengyao or Shen Yushu or the others.

Kang** gave it a cursory look, then pressed delete and wiped the video. Lecherous as he was, he had no interest in lingering over anything so indecent.

"Boss, what do we do with this dv?" Kang** asked.

"Take it home and play with it. What, are you going to give it back to Xie Yufeng?" Wei Zhao had never once intended to return it to its rightful owner.

"Oh, all right then. I'll take it home for Xiaofen to play with." Kang** happily put the dv away.

After this little episode, Wei Zhao had lost all desire to keep wandering about the campus. He said to Kang**, "Let's go, back to the classroom."

Kang** was eager to get back too, to work out how to use the dv so that he could take selfies with Xiaofen... though nothing had happened between him and Xiaofen yet, he could always run a rehearsal first...

When Wei Zhao and Kang** returned to the classroom, Xie Yufeng and his two companions had not come back; their seats sat empty, obviously they had gone to a hospital.

But Wei Zhao could not be bothered with them. Fine — if you are so willing to hide your strength, then hide it. Sooner or later Shen Yushu and Feng Xiaoxiao will make your lives hell every day, torment you to death, and we shall see how long you can hold out!

Kang** set about figuring out how to operate the dv, while Wei Zhao sat at his desk and returned to the game he had been playing.

After a while, Wei Zhao found it dull, quit the game, and began looking through his phone for whatever else was on it.

He was only idly flipping through, but somehow he inadvertently opened a notepad app, and inside it was a file called "My Wishes."

His first instinct, on entering what was plainly a private folder, had been to back out at once; but at the sight of the file titled "My Wishes," Wei Zhao hesitated. He knew Feng Xiaoxiao's situation all too well: at the very most she had one year of life left, and even that was the most optimistic estimate. Put more bleakly, she might die tomorrow...

So the wishes Feng Xiaoxiao had set down before her death did weigh on Wei Zhao's mind.

If it were possible, he wanted to fulfill every one of them for her, one by one. That would let Feng Xiaoxiao live out a life without regret.

Yet just as Wei Zhao was about to open the file called "My Wishes," the dismissal bell rang, at a most inopportune moment. Wei Zhao frowned. The gymnasium was some distance from the classroom building, but Feng Xiaoxiao would be back within a few minutes.

At that thought, Wei Zhao hesitated no longer; he clicked open the file called "My Wishes" and began to read.

Once it opened, Wei Zhao discovered that "My Wishes" had not been written in a single day but was spread across many pages. Each page held only one wish and the date of the wishing. If a wish had come true, Feng Xiaoxiao marked it on the index page as "Fulfilled"; those that had not were naturally left unmarked.

Wei Zhao smiled wryly. If it had all been written on one page, a few minutes might just have been enough to finish it; but paging through it one leaf at a time, he doubted he would get through it today. Fortunately there was gym class every week, so he need not rush to read it all in one day; he would read as much as he could today and pick an easy one to help Feng Xiaoxiao fulfill first.

Wei Zhao clicked the link for the earliest date on the index page and began to read.

"Can my illness really be cured? Tomorrow I'm going with Dad to a hospital in Yanjing for tests — they say it specializes in genetic diseases. My heart is so uneasy. I hope this hospital can cure me!"

Reading this wish of Feng Xiaoxiao's, Wei Zhao was left somewhat speechless. If her illness could be cured, why would he go to the trouble of helping her fulfill her wishes? This wish of hers was really... Then he glanced at the date of the wish, shook his head, and smiled wryly again. It had been written three years ago; back then Feng Xiaoxiao must still have harbored a few illusions about her condition...

Only — had Feng Xiaoxiao been using this phone three years ago? Most likely she had transferred it over after switching phones.

Wei Zhao closed that wish and looked at the next one.

Compared with the first, the second wish was rather more ordinary.

"I want a sports car!"

This one had also been written three years ago, but it was marked as fulfilled. Only then did Wei Zhao remember that he had no time to spare on wishes already realized, so he hastily backed out and searched further along for those not yet fulfilled.

Still, in this file the fulfilled wishes made up a sizable portion. At last Wei Zhao found one without the "Fulfilled" mark and clicked it open.

"How I want a best girlfriend — someone I could pour out my loneliness to, someone to share joys and sorrows with, in the same bed... But I am destined never to have a true friend. I don't want my good friend to suffer on account of my death."

Reading this wish, Wei Zhao could not help drawing a deep breath, his heart heavy. Judging by the tone of it, Feng Xiaoxiao must already have known that her illness was incurable — that was why such words had come from her. Perhaps she had already despaired of ever being cured.

To have a friend, a friend who truly understood her! In the eyes of any ordinary girl, this seemed the simplest thing in the world. Who, from childhood up, had not had a few true friends? What girl had never shared a bed with her best girlfriend?

Yet something so simple had become an extravagant hope for Feng Xiaoxiao. And her kindness — her refusal to let her own death bring pain to a friend — touched Wei Zhao deeply.

Only, there was truly no way for Wei Zhao to fulfill this wish, because... he could not be a best girlfriend! Was he supposed to take up a knife and castrate himself? Though he could suggest that Tang Yun and Xiaoshu become Feng Xiaoxiao's best girlfriends — that would be a fine choice.

Wei Zhao quickly photographed this wish with his own phone, then, not daring to lose another moment, opened yet another wish that bore no "Fulfilled" mark and read on.

"I want to be a race car driver and take part in a thrilling race! I love the sense of speed that racing brings me, except... my skills are too poor, and no one will let me enter a race..." After which came a sweating emoji.
