Chapter 839 — Curing Illness, Causing Illness
Zhen Yingjun decided this was no place to linger, and he no longer had any thought of taking revenge on Shen Yushu, for he felt this was something no human power could resist. What was this? This was nothing less than a god working miracles!
Otherwise, how was the bouncy ball from before to be explained? Thinking on it now, those jump shots he had made might well have been arranged by Heaven as well! How else could he have made them? And when he recalled all the strangeness at the billiard table — balls that plainly had no energy left yet behaved as though they had been fed stimulants — how was that to be explained?
Earlier he had thought nothing of it, but now, the more he thought, the more horrifying it became: he had been contending against a god all this time. How could he ever have had any hope of winning?
And look at the present — that old woman, a cripple, was now free of every affliction, while he himself had become a cripple... He dared not imagine what would happen next. Frightened out of his wits, he turned and hobbled off as fast as he could! This place was too dreadful. Once he got home, he must hurry and summon a few "great immortals" to perform rites, and drive the ill fortune off his body!
He did not believe he had truly gone lame or that his mouth was truly crooked. He was certain some unknown thing had taken possession of him, and he must have great immortals perform rites for him!
"I understand now! I understand! Little girl, you must be a fairy sent down from Heaven! Only a fairy could have such divine powers as yours!" The old woman was no fool either. Seeing her own strange illness shift in the blink of an eye onto a wicked man, how could she not realize that Shen Yushu had done it?
And how could such a thing be done by any ordinary person? It must be the work of an immortal! So the old woman, without thinking, took Shen Yushu for a fairy, and with that she made ready to bow to her.
Shen Yushu was startled. How could she let the old woman pay her such a great courtesy? She hurriedly caught hold of her and said, "Granny, please, you must never do that. Truly, this isn't my doing..."
However thick-skinned Shen Yushu might be, she could not bring herself to pose as a fairy before an old granny.
But how could the old woman believe that? She trusted only what her own eyes had seen. If not for Shen Yushu, how could that hooligan have been punished, and how could her own illness have been cured?
Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had no way out of it; they could only hurry away, or in another moment the old woman would surely be kowtowing to them, and that they could not possibly bear.
Only when they had walked all the way back to the car and gotten in did Gu Mengyao ask, curious, "Wei Zhao, how did you do it?"
"Yes, yes, Brother Arrow, how could the old granny's illness be transferred to someone else?" Shen Yushu asked, just as puzzled.
"Heh..." Wei Zhao shrugged and started the car. "The old woman's illness is nothing but the aftereffect of a stroke — blocked meridians, to put it plainly. Acupuncture will cure it. Her family is simply poor, and she has never been to a hospital."
What Wei Zhao said was quite true: the old woman's illness was not truly an illness at all, only the aftereffect of blocked meridians, so acupuncture alone could cure it. To cure it all at once, however, required Wei Zhao's transmission of energy — though this he did not say to Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, for they would not have understood it even if he had.
"And Zhen Yingjun? How did he suddenly come down with the same illness as the old granny?" The young lady knew Wei Zhao was a formidable doctor; her own poison and General Weiwu's wounds had all been healed by him. But curing illness is easy, while causing illness is hard. How, then, had Wei Zhao manufactured symptoms in Zhen Yingjun?
"Oh, the same principle. I used acupuncture to seal several of his acupoints," Wei Zhao said simply. In truth he had sealed them with energy, and that was what had produced the present state.
"So that's it!" Shen Yushu said, suddenly enlightened. "There's so much to it. Brother Arrow, then what about the billiards earlier?"
"True qi," said Wei Zhao. This question was hard for him to explain, so he could only lay it at the feet of true qi.
"Oh..." Shen Yushu did know of true qi, though she did not understand it well. Hearing Wei Zhao say so, she asked no more.
.......................
As for Zhen Yingjun, he dared not linger. In a panic, he went to find his father, Zhen Dazhou.
When Zhen Dazhou saw his son's appearance, he was badly startled! The boy had been perfectly fine when he left the house that morning — how had he come home in such a wretched state? What on earth had happened?
"Dad, what happened today is downright uncanny! I've never run into anything so uncanny in my life!" Zhen Yingjun held nothing back, and told his father everything that had happened that day, from first to last. "Dad, do you think that's even possible? It flies in the face of all reason. Do you suppose I've run into something unclean at its mischief?"
"Hmm... that is indeed possible!" Zhen Dazhou's line of business was one of blood and blade, and he was rather superstitious. Hearing Zhen Yingjun's account, he too found the affair bizarre beyond belief — bouncy balls and the like, all of it contrary to reason! "You mean those two women may not be human? That they're spirits?"
"They could be!" Zhen Yingjun nodded hastily. "Those two girls are so stunning — how could any ordinary person look like that? I've chased after countless women, and never have I seen such top-grade beauties. Thinking it over carefully now, there really is something wrong!"
Zhen Dazhou drew a deep breath, then turned to Zou Tiandi, who had said nothing all this while, and asked, "Brother Tiandi, what do you make of this?"
Zou Tiandi did not know the truth, nor which great deity Zhen Yingjun had offended. His mind was on whether his own son, Zou Ruoguang, had been dragged into it as well, and so he was somewhat distracted. "I'd say Brother Dazhou's guess is possible. You may have run into something unclean."
"Brother Tiandi, do you know any great immortals, or the like? Could you bring one to perform rites for Yingjun?" Zhen Dazhou did not dare be negligent; the sooner this was settled, the better. But it never once occurred to him to go to a hospital, for by Zhen Yingjun's account this was plainly the work of an evil influence — how could it be an illness?
Besides, no illness made a man's mouth and eyes go crooked and his leg lame all at once. Who had ever heard of such an acute affliction?
"I don't know any myself, but I can make inquiries and find one soon enough! So long as one has the money to spend, would one ever fail to hire a great immortal?" Zou Tiandi was feeling uneasy too. This Zhen boy was a walking calamity — his very first day in Songshan City, and he had already stirred up a great disaster. In a moment he must call Ruoguang and tell him to keep well away from Zhen Yingjun, lest he be dragged in as well!
