Chapter 748 — A Little Something for You

The Blossom Guardian

"Maybe." Qiu Lingshan nodded and dialed Wei Zhao's number.

Wei Zhao had just finished seeing Zhong Yongliang and was not far from the ward when Qiu Lingshan's call came through. "What is it?"

"Liu Bojia is awake. He wants to see you," Qiu Lingshan said.

"Wants to see me? What for?" Wei Zhao could not fathom what business Liu Bojia could possibly have with him.

"He says he wants to thank you, to give you a little something," Qiu Lingshan said. "Earlier he spoke of giving you twenty million as a reward, but after he heard from me that you're a doctor, he said he wanted to meet you and give you something instead."

"Oh?" Wei Zhao was rather puzzled. What could Liu Bojia possibly give him? Still, if there was something to be gained, he had no reason to turn it down—he had saved the man's life twice and gotten nothing for it.

So he asked, "Is he still in the hospital?"

"Yes, in his old ward," Qiu Lingshan said. "Where are you?"

"I'm at the hospital too. I'll come over now." With that, Wei Zhao hung up.

Then he sent a text message to the young miss and Shen Yushu, telling them he still had some other business at the hospital and would not ride back to school with them, and that the two of them should go on ahead.

"Sister Yaoyao, why is Brother Shield busy every single day?" Shen Yushu felt that Wei Zhao was forever rushing about, busy with one thing after another.

"I don't know. Maybe he was never a servant at all—his turning up at the villa was just a twist of fate..." Gu Mengyao found that she understood Wei Zhao less and less, from the migrant worker who had first come to the city to the mysterious expert he was now...

"Oh. Then... will he really leave someday?" Shen Yushu sounded a little forlorn.

"He will. Probably he will... We've grown up too, and we ought to learn to protect ourselves instead of always troubling others..." Gu Mengyao looked out the car window, toward the direction in which Wei Zhao had vanished, a faint melancholy settling over her.

"Sister Yaoyao, but I don't want to grow up," Shen Yushu said, shaking her head.

"Want to or not, you have to. You're not a little girl anymore!" Gu Mengyao pinched Shen Yushu's cheek. "See? I can pinch you and you don't even cry. So you're not a child anymore."

"Wahhh... I'm crying..." Shen Yushu cried.

"..." Gu Mengyao ignored her, turning her head away, lost in thought.

Wei Zhao found Qiu Lingshan and Chen Yutian at the door of Liu Bojia's ward.

"Wei Zhao!" Qiu Lingshan came over to meet him. "You're here? Liu Bojia just said he wanted to rest a while. Shall I go and have a look?"

"No need. I'll go straight in." Wei Zhao shook his head. Rest? Liu Bojia had been resting for days on end; by now he was probably bursting with energy.

Hearing this, Qiu Lingshan said nothing more, for if Wei Zhao did a thing, he surely had his reasons.

Wei Zhao pushed the door open and walked into Liu Bojia's ward. Sure enough, Liu Bojia was not resting at all, but scribbling and sketching on a sheet of paper. Seeing Wei Zhao enter, he could not help but start. "Who are you?"

"You were looking for me?" Wei Zhao did not answer the question, but asked one of his own.

"So you're the one who saved my life twice?" Liu Bojia was no fool; he guessed Wei Zhao's identity at once.

Wei Zhao nodded. "That's me."

"I'm a man who repays kindness." Liu Bojia nodded, not doubting Wei Zhao's identity in the least. Young as Wei Zhao looked—far too young, perhaps—Liu Bojia, who made his living by his skills, knew well that ambition does not wait on years. Since Wei Zhao could appear here, it meant he had the police's permission; and if he was not the one who had saved him, who else could he be?

"Ha. I'm not fond of saving people for free either." Wei Zhao shrugged. "If Qiu Lingshan hadn't pestered me, I wouldn't have come to save you at all."

"Ha, straightforward! I like it." Liu Bojia laughed. "That's best. Suits me perfectly."

"What is this something you want to give me? Twenty million?" Wei Zhao looked at Liu Bojia and asked mildly.

"You probably wouldn't be interested in that. With your medical skill, twenty million is nothing you couldn't earn." Liu Bojia waved a hand. He had escaped death this time; the hospital had been helpless, yet Wei Zhao had cured him. With skill like that, Wei Zhao would never lack for money.

"Heh..." Wei Zhao smiled and said nothing.

"Did the police tell you who I am?" Liu Bojia asked.

"No. And I didn't ask." Wei Zhao shook his head.

"I'm an archaeologist, and also a tomb robber..." Liu Bojia briefly introduced himself, then said, "According to the ancient texts I've studied, the tomb near Songshan is very likely that of Zhang Liju, the folk medical sage of the late Song and early Yuan. You're a doctor—there may be something in that tomb you need."

"Oh? You mean you want me to go dig up a tomb?" Wei Zhao was taken aback. Zhang Liju—he seemed to have seen that name in one of the old man's books.

"The police will probably go. Given your connections with them, you could go along." Liu Bojia handed Wei Zhao a stack of documents. "These are the positions of the tomb's traps as I've deduced them, along with some ways to disarm them. It's not complete, but it should help you somewhat."

"Why not give it to the police?" Wei Zhao took the documents, glanced at them, and asked.

"It has nothing to do with my own case. I say what I want to say, and keep quiet when I don't." Liu Bojia smiled.

"Thank you." Wei Zhao accepted the documents without doubting Liu Bojia's words, for Liu Bojia did not seem to be lying now; from what Wei Zhao could observe, he was telling the truth. Besides, he had no reason to lie.

"Now we're even. As for that twenty million, take it if you want it; if not, donate it on my behalf. Where doesn't matter—it's your money now." Liu Bojia smiled, closed his eyes, and said no more.

Wei Zhao tucked the documents into his coat and turned out of the ward.

Qiu Lingshan and Chen Yutian were waiting at the door. Seeing Wei Zhao come out, Qiu Lingshan seemed to want to speak, yet held back.

"If there's nothing else, I'll be going." Wei Zhao glanced at Qiu Lingshan. He knew she wanted to ask what Liu Bojia had given him, but he did not volunteer the answer.

"All right..." Curious as she was, Qiu Lingshan still felt she ought not to know so much. What if what Liu Bojia had given Wei Zhao went against her principles—then should she interfere or not? Her head began to ache...

She was a person of strong principles, and this sudden thought startled her. Since when had she begun to care about Wei Zhao's interests?
