Chapter 607 — Getting Close to Guan Xin
"Well... I do have a few men, but they have nothing to do with the Gu Group. Even if we made them take the fall, the police would never believe it!" Li Cihua said, looking troubled.
"Young Master Bing, I have a man. He is a distant relative of mine. Promise him enough money and he will take the blame. He is the sort who loves money more than life," Jin Gubang said after a moment's thought. "Most important of all, he has a grudge against Gu Pengzhan!"
"Good, excellent. Then it is settled. The Medicine King will brew the poison, Zhong Yongliang will administer it, and if trouble comes, Jin Gubang's relative will take the fall!" Young Master Bing was already impatient, so he fixed the plan in a few words. "Medicine King, make it something rare, something hard to cure and hard for any hospital to detect. Only then can we ruin the Gu Group's name for good. If they find out it was deliberate poisoning, it will not hurt Gu Pengzhan nearly as much!"
"Rest assured, Young Master Bing," the Medicine King said with confidence. "Few men in this world can undo a poison of my making! Since I am called the Medicine King, my study of medicine runs deep. In all my life I have lost to only one man, and that man vanished more than ten years ago!"
The Medicine King had every right to his pride. Among the famed doctors of all the hidden clans, if he claimed second place, no one would dare claim first! That was why he had been able to save Uncle Zhu even after such grievous wounds!
"Good, that is what I want to hear." Young Master Bing knew well how formidable the Medicine King was. "Once Zhong Yongliang leaves the hospital, we put this plan into action! Old Zhong, do not brood over it. I will not treat you unfairly. Is Yongliang not missing a kidney? In the next few days I will find him a matching kidney source and have it put in!"
"Thank you, Young Master Bing!" Zhong Fabai was overjoyed at once. Zhong Yongliang's missing kidney had always weighed on his heart, and for Young Master Bing himself to find a donor could not have been better.
Wei Zhao had no idea Young Master Bing had already begun to move against him, but even if he had known, he would only have laughed it off. The Medicine King? A man who had to use Divine Doctor Kang's remedy for an ordinary wound, yet dared to call himself the Medicine King? How had the world come to hold so many shameless men? Truly, in a world so vast, shameless faces are everywhere!
He parked below the Xuehai Bookstore and went in with the two young ladies.
Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu headed for the high-school reference section. Wei Zhao had little interest in such things. Even if he failed to get into college, Gu Pengzhan would still send him to the same university as Gu Mengyao. Unlike Gu Mengyao, Wei Zhao did not care how he got into college.
Rather than spend every day buried in books and review, he would sooner study something else. Wei Zhao was busy enough as it was.
"I am going to look around the medical section. Come find me there when you finish buying books," Wei Zhao said to Gu Mengyao.
"Oh..." Gu Mengyao was flipping through a newly published collection of mock examination papers from every province and city, and only answered faintly without paying him any mind.
Shen Yushu was the same as Gu Mengyao, paging through a book of exercises, but when she heard Wei Zhao she waved to him to show she understood.
Wei Zhao smiled and turned toward the medical section. It was here that he had first met Guan Xuemin. In the blink of an eye nearly a month had passed, and he and Guan Xuemin had actually founded a pharmaceutical company together. The turns of life were truly marvelous.
To his surprise, in the medical section Wei Zhao spotted two familiar faces!
Kang Zhaoming had been in Songshan City for four days. He had come bearing a weighty mission from his family, which was to win over Guan Xin! He meant to start with Guan Xin and thereby learn the formula for the longevity detox pill in Guan Xuemin's hands! Of course, he did not believe Guan Xuemin had invented the formula. In his view, Guan Xuemin, like his own grandfather Divine Doctor Kang, had by chance met some master and gotten the formula from another man's hands.
He was a practiced hand with women, and naturally would not rush straight to the hospital with flowers to declare his love. That would be too trite, and he did not think Guan Xin would accept. According to his inquiries, Guan Xin had never had a boyfriend. To act that way would only frighten her.
So Kang Zhaoming meant to stage a chance meeting, to run into Guan Xin in a suitable setting as if by accident, and thus make her acquaintance! That would also lower her guard!
Yet the chance proved hard to find. Kang Zhaoming had staked out Guan Xin's door for four days without finding any opening! Guan Xuemin's address had been easy to learn, and Kang Zhaoming had found it with little effort, and waiting nearby he did see Guan Xin every day, but he could hardly walk straight up and accost her.
She would surely take him for a lecher, which was not what Kang Zhaoming wanted to see.
Guan Xin rode the hospital shuttle to and from work every day, regular as clockwork, which left Kang Zhaoming no opening! If she took the bus or a taxi, he could still find a chance to contrive a meeting, but the shuttle was for hospital staff, and he could not board it at all!
This left Kang Zhaoming deeply frustrated. He called himself a saint of the flowers. When had he ever waited four days without even approaching his mark? Just as his patience wore thin, Guan Xin finally went out! It was Saturday, her day off, and leaving the villa she took the bus straight to the Xuehai Bookstore!
Kang Zhaoming sensed his chance had come, so he quickly hailed a taxi and followed her all the way to the Xuehai Bookstore. Seeing her head for the medical section, he began to ponder how to strike up a conversation.
Guan Xin naturally noticed no one following her. After all, she was no student of criminal investigation, and could not have known Kang Zhaoming was already close by.
Guan Xin had come to the bookstore today to buy books for the assistant physician examination in integrated Chinese and Western medicine. In school, though her major had been nursing, she had also studied integrated Chinese-Western medicine. She had chosen it then because her grandfather was a distinguished practitioner of Chinese medicine, and unwilling to disappoint the old man, she had taken a Chinese-medicine-related field as her second major.
But after graduation, Guan Xin still felt Chinese medicine did not suit her, so she became a nurse. Though Guan Xuemin was disappointed, he said little. After all, Guan Xin was a girl, and Guan Xuemin had placed no great hopes on her.
