Chapter 346 — The Uninvited Guest

The Blossom Guardian

"No need. I have some personal business tonight!" Brother Wen waved a hand. "Don't follow me."

"Yes, Brother Wen! Then shall I get a car ready for you?" the tattooed man asked cautiously.

"Mm. Bring the Ferrari out for me." Brother Wen ordered.

That night, however, an uninvited guest arrived at Gu Mengyao's villa.

The doorbell at the villa's gate rang. At that moment Gu Mengyao was upstairs in her room, lecturing Shen Yushu, giving voice to her strong displeasure at the girl's habit of running around the house with not a stitch on. "Xiaoshu, you're nineteen years old already. You can't keep doing this! Do you understand?"

"I know, I know, Sister Yao Yao..." Shen Yushu nodded, grinning all over her face.

"Look at you. The moment I scold you, you pull that cheeky grin — and in the end it's that villain Wei Zhao who gets the benefit, isn't it?" Gu Mengyao glared at her. "You'd better watch out, or he'll sneak a nude photo of you, and then what will you do?"

"Oh... Sister Yao Yao, someone's ringing the bell downstairs. Shall we go down and have a look?" Shen Yushu had changed the subject again.

"Look at what? Wei Zhao's the errand boy — let him answer the door. What's the rush?" Gu Mengyao said, unimpressed.

"Oh... it must be Uncle Qing bringing dinner. I'm hungry, let's go downstairs!" Shen Yushu clutched her belly, looking on the verge of fainting. "I'm starving to death."

Gu Mengyao shook her head and had no choice but to drag Shen Yushu downstairs with her.

Hearing the doorbell, Wei Zhao came out of his room to answer it. When he reached the yard, he froze — for the visitor was not Uncle Qing, nor anyone else familiar, but An Jianwen, the man he had met at the amusement park that day!

"An Jianwen?" Wei Zhao was slightly taken aback. How had he found his way here?

And An Jianwen, seeing that the one who came out to open the door was actually Wei Zhao, felt a flicker of gloom pass through his eyes, unseen by anyone. He was actually inside Gu Mengyao's home? A bad premonition stirred in An Jianwen's heart. Had he and Gu Mengyao already reached the point of living together? And in Gu Mengyao's own villa, no less?

Did Gu Pengzhan know about any of this? On the surface, though, An Jianwen still wore a warm smile across his face; he would never let the feelings in his heart show. "Oh? Isn't this Mr. Wei Zhao? What a coincidence — you're here too?"

"I live here." Wei Zhao glanced at him and said flatly. How could Wei Zhao fail to catch the probing tone in the fellow's words? Some coincidence indeed!

Sure enough, An Jianwen's expression froze. He had already had his dark suspicions, though he had still clung to a shred of hope; now he could be utterly certain — Wei Zhao was living here!

An Jianwen clenched his fists. He had been abroad for only three years, and another man had already beaten him to it? The Four Young Masters of Songshan of old — was he to have his girl poached out from under him just like that?

"Heh heh. So Mr. Wei Zhao is already living with Yao Yao." An Jianwen felt as though his heart were bleeding... Even if he won out over Wei Zhao, the woman he brought home would be secondhand goods.

"Are you here to check the household register?" Wei Zhao frowned. Why did this fellow have so much nonsense to spout? "Is there something you want?"

"It's like this — that day, you and Yao Yao saved me, so I made a special trip to thank you in person." An Jianwen forced down the displeasure in his heart, then smiled and lifted the gifts in his hand. "See, I even brought things... Let me in first?"

Wei Zhao sneered inwardly. Come to thank him in person? A minute ago you probably didn't even know I lived here — what kind of thanks is that? If you're here to chase a girl, say you're here to chase a girl. Why so hypocritical? Still, Wei Zhao did not call him out; what the fellow was here for had little to do with him. He opened the gate and let An Jianwen in.

"I wonder if Mr. Gu is at home?" An Jianwen asked once more, testing the waters after coming inside.

"Who exactly have you come to see?" Wei Zhao looked at An Jianwen with contempt. "Uncle Chu doesn't live here. If you want to find him, go to the company."

"Oh? He doesn't live here anymore..." An Jianwen had genuinely wanted to ask where Gu Pengzhan was, because before he went abroad, Gu Pengzhan had lived together with Gu Mengyao.

Wei Zhao paid him no further attention and went into the villa first, leaving An Jianwen to follow along behind. As for the gifts in his hands, Wei Zhao had no interest in taking them — there was no telling who they were meant for, anyway.

By then Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had come downstairs, and they too were rather surprised to see An Jianwen behind Wei Zhao.

"Brother Jianwen, what brings you here?" Gu Mengyao did not much like An Jianwen. The An Jianwen of now no longer carried that big-brother-next-door feeling from her childhood; there was an indefinable gloom about him that made her uncomfortable.

"Heh heh, last time at the amusement park restaurant, I was so grateful to you and Mr. Wei Zhao, so I made a special trip to thank you both!" An Jianwen set the gifts down on the coffee table in the villa's living room with a smile.

They were all foreign nutritional supplements, a jumble of this and that, but none of it looked like something meant for young people. Wei Zhao guessed that the fellow had come specifically to call on Gu Pengzhan — only Gu Pengzhan no longer lived here.

"Brother Jianwen, when did you become so hypocritical? You never used to do things like this." Gu Mengyao said coolly. She felt the gulf between her and An Jianwen growing wider and wider, the old affection of brother and sister gone for good. "If I were sick, would you just stand by and do nothing?"

"Heh heh, then I suppose I was being vulgar." An Jianwen also felt he had been a little thoughtless — he had not found out where Gu Pengzhan lived now before charging over to the door. These things really were not suitable gifts for Gu Mengyao, but he had already carried them here, and taking them back would be even more awkward. "Still, these are all things I brought back from abroad. Just for the novelty, I suppose."

"Oh! Sister Yao Yao, these things must be worth a lot, right? Why don't we sell them?" Shen Yushu studied the pile of foreign gifts on the coffee table with curiosity...

"Xiaoshu!" Gu Mengyao shot her a glare. Even if you don't like An Jianwen, you can't be that rude to his face, can you?

The corner of An Jianwen's mouth twitched twice. Where Shen Yushu was concerned, he was utterly helpless — he could not afford to cross her, and she was Gu Mengyao's closest friend, so he dared not offend her either.

"Heh heh..." Shen Yushu laughed, ignored An Jianwen, and turned on the television to watch by herself. The atmosphere in the villa suddenly went cold.

"You two talk. I'm going back to my room." Wei Zhao stood up and headed for his room. Trading words with this An Jianwen was a waste of time!

Watching Wei Zhao rise and walk toward the room on the ground floor, An Jianwen felt a strange gleam flash through his eyes. "Mr. Wei Zhao lives downstairs?"
