Chapter 190 — A Fragile Heart - "With Wei Zhao's Skills, Bullying These Small Vendors Was a Bit of Overkill"

The Blossom Guardian

But Zhang Biaogan had crossed Wei Zhao's bottom line. Wei Zhao did not know the details of Tang Yun's family circumstances, but one thing he was sure of: they were anything but well off. And the fact that Tang Yun's father never appeared here had given Wei Zhao a few ideas of his own...

Zhang Biaogan was plainly bullying people. That being the case, Wei Zhao could only bully him a little in return, and teach him that bullying the weak was not so easy a business.

"What are you still sitting here for? Waiting for me to treat you to dinner?" Wei Zhao asked, looking down at Zhang Biaogan on the ground.

Zhang Biaogan squeezed out a smile and scrambled up from the ground. "I wouldn't dare, I wouldn't dare. I'm leaving now, leaving right now..."

With that, Zhang Biaogan fled at top speed. He did not even dare to claim the stall on the ground; he only snatched up the cash box and hurried out of the snack street.

As for the domineering barbecue woman of before, and that effeminate, lanky man as well, both were silently packing up their stalls. Tomorrow, they would be changing trades.

"Auntie, are you all right?" Having sent Zhang Biaogan on his way, Wei Zhao walked over to Tang's mother, who looked somewhat at a loss.

The sudden turn of events had left Tang's mother unable to react.

"N-no... I'm fine..." Tang's mother came back to herself from her shock. Zhang Biaogan's tyrannical face had been vivid before her eyes only moments ago, and now he had slunk off in disgrace.

All of it because of the young man standing before her. So what if Zhang Biaogan was a bully? There was always someone who could out-bully him.

Tang Yun lowered her head, her feelings a tangled mess, unsure what to say. As a top student, she did not approve of Wei Zhao's way of handling things — and yet she had to admit that his way had been the most fitting of all.

After this, Zhang Biaogan would never dare bully her family again. But why had Wei Zhao done it? Why help her family? In her heart, Tang Yun "understood" perfectly well: Wei Zhao wanted to curry favor with her, to court her, and by such means to move her heart...

The method was hopelessly clichéd, but Tang Yun had to admit it worked. At least, in her eyes, Wei Zhao was no longer so detestable — and even if he was detestable, it was only toward people more detestable than himself.

He had barged so domineeringly into her life and become entangled with her family. Tang Yun wanted to shake Wei Zhao off, but could not shake him clear. How was she to face him from now on?

Keep sneering at him? Tang Yun knew she could not do it; she was not a heartless person. Wei Zhao had done so much — whatever his reasons, he had helped her, helped her family. And so Tang Yun could only choose to flee. His status made her wary; thinking of Xiaofen's bitter lesson, Tang Yun's heart closed itself off once more...

Wei Zhao glanced at Tang Yun, who stood silent with her head down, and thought nothing of it. "Auntie, I just came by after school to ask — what time should we come over this weekend? Tang Yun didn't make it clear earlier, so I thought I would confirm it again."

"Saturday morning, then. Come whenever you have the time. Our home is the third door in Qingcao Alley, in the shantytown." Tang's mother had recovered her composure, though her face was full of gratitude. "Wei Zhao, I truly must thank you for today. If you hadn't come, my daughter and I wouldn't have known what to do... we would have been bullied..."

"Heh, it won't happen again." Wei Zhao smiled. "Auntie, Xiaobo and I will be going, then. See you Saturday."

"Don't be in such a hurry — sit here, let Auntie grill you something." Naturally, Tang's mother would not let Wei Zhao leave just like that; she had to thank him somehow.

The more Tang's mother looked at Wei Zhao now, the more she liked him. The boy had the arrogance and high-handedness of a rich young master, and yet he was reasonable. When he turned overbearing, he was truly frightening, but ordinarily, with people he knew, he was easygoing.

"Not today. It's getting late. Saturday — we'll come to your door on time and impose on you then." Wei Zhao's phone had already buzzed twice; it was probably a text from Gu Mengyao or Shen Yushu, so he needed to get back quickly.

"All right, then." Seeing Wei Zhao insist, Tang's mother had no choice but to let him go. "Yun'er, go see your classmate out!"

"Oh..." Tang Yun nodded reluctantly, but this time she did not refuse. Still silent, her head down, she walked over to Wei Zhao.

"Heh." Wei Zhao smiled faintly and turned to leave with Kang Xiaobo. Tang Yun followed, neither ahead nor behind, and who knew what she was thinking.

"All right, if you don't want to see me off, you don't have to. Go back." Wei Zhao looked at Tang Yun, faintly amused.

"I wasn't—" Tang Yun gave a low huff. "Thank you, for today." "I just happened to pass by and see it. With anyone else, I probably would have stepped in too..." Here Wei Zhao said "probably." In fact, with anyone else, he probably would not have.

If he stuck his nose into everything, he would have no business staying here; he might as well go be Ultraman or Spider-Man.

Of course Tang Yun did not believe he had just happened to pass by. If not for her, would a rich young master like him bother with such things? But the more she owed Wei Zhao, the more uneasy Tang Yun felt...

"Do you really want to date me?" Tang Yun suddenly raised her head and looked at Wei Zhao.

"Huh?" Her reaction startled Wei Zhao; he was rather surprised she would ask such a thing out of the blue.

In truth, it had taken a great deal of courage for Tang Yun to ask. Wei Zhao had inserted himself into her family's life like this; it was impossible for her to have no thoughts about it. She wanted to confirm once more just what his purpose was.

Yet when she asked it, though she had sounded perfectly justified, she was in fact terribly flustered. For a girl to ask such a question — Tang Yun's face burned. Fortunately it was night, and Wei Zhao should not be able to tell.

Tang Yun was nervous, and so Wei Zhao's "Huh?" was taken by her as tacit confirmation of her question.

"Do your parents know? Would they agree?" Before Wei Zhao could truly answer, she pressed on.

To be honest, Tang Yun was nervous too. She could see everything Wei Zhao had done for her family, and she herself no longer knew what she felt for him — dislike, and yet also something a little particular...

"My parents?" Wei Zhao was startled again. Who were his parents? Even he did not know. Old Man Wei said he was an orphan... Wei Zhao's daze was taken by Tang Yun as hesitation. Tang Yun's fragile young heart tightened slightly; the feelings that had just begun to stir vanished in an instant. So in the end he was only playing around — he had never intended to tell his parents about her, never intended to spend his life with her. Then what was she agonizing over?
